"Personal, intimate, contemplative, natural & small" - these were the client's salient instructions. This house is akin to a 'rice paper lantern' placed where land meets sea. The intention is a metaphorical blending of eastern and western world views (shinto and gothic). The modest plan emerges from a colonnade of tree-like columns that contain integrated light fixtures. At quiet moments, as the sea whispers, one can almost hear strains of Gregorian Chants.
